The main thing a first-time will find at Koch’s, other than the ridiculously good “Special K” (corned beef, turkey, pastrami, kosher salami and potato salad with Swiss and Russian dressing!), is a long line of happy, patient customers snacking on gratis slices of pastrami while they wait. After tasting the fresh-baked goods, hoagies packed with meats and cheeses, milkshakes, cheesesteaks and sandwiches named for University City heavy-hitters, it’s easy to see why Koch’s has been a neighborhood favorite since 1966. The motto alone draws patrons: “More Food for Less Bread.”
